Washington D.C. is a swamp.

Democrat Rep G.K. Butterfield is retiring early from Congress – his term is up on Tuesday.

The Epoch Times reported:

Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.) announced Friday he resigned early from Congress, just days before his term would have come to an end on Tuesday.

Starting Saturday at midnight, Butterfield will no longer represent North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, he said.

“It has been my high honor and privilege to represent the people of North Carolina for more than 18 years,” Butterfield said in a letter read that was read on the House floor on Friday.

He is retiring early because he is going to work at a law firm that does lobbying in Washington D.C.

He has to wait a year to lobby Congress but he will be lobbying the executive branch before that.

WRAL reported:

U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, who was already leaving Congress at the end of this term, will check out a few days early to take a new job at a Washington, D.C., law firm, he said Friday.

Butterfield declined to name the law firm he’ll join, saying he expects an announcement this weekend. He said he plans to do lobbying and policy work, though there’s a one-year cooling off period before he can lobby Congress itself. Butterfield said he expects to lobby the executive branch before then.

Should this be allowed?
