Australian Bureau of Statistics Reports Increase in Excess Deaths in 2022 Which is Above Historical Average

In keeping with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the variety of extra deaths in 2022 has already elevated which is greater than the common for earlier years.

  • There have been 384 deaths as a result of influenza and pneumonia in June, 31.5% above the baseline common. Of those deaths, 147 have been as a result of influenza (in comparison with a baseline common of 41) and 237 have been as a result of pneumonia (in comparison with a baseline common of 251).
  • There have been 193 physician licensed deaths as a result of influenza between January and June 2022.
  • Deaths as a result of persistent decrease respiratory ailments have been 8.5% above the baseline common for June, and deaths as a result of respiratory ailments have been 13.5% above common. Power decrease respiratory ailments and influenza and pneumonia are subsets of respiratory ailments.
  • Deaths as a result of dementia together with Alzheimer’s illness have been 25.6% above the baseline common in June, and 21.8% above the baseline common for the 12 months to June. This equated to an age-standardised demise price of 4.3 per 100,000 individuals, in comparison with a baseline common price of three.8.
  • Whereas the variety of deaths as a result of most cancers was above the baseline common in June, the age standardised price of 12.0 per 100,000 individuals was under the baseline common price of 12.5.
  • Deaths as a result of diabetes have been 17.2% above common in June, and have been 20.1% increased than the baseline common for the 12 months to June. The age standardised demise price for June was 1.4 per 100,000 individuals, in comparison with a baseline common price of 1.3.
